Search Engine Submission
Have you submitted your site to the relevant Search Engines? Once you have a website or blog set up, it is important to make it easy for the search engines to discover. One way of doing this is by Search Engine Submission and it’s important to do this as soon as possible. The reason I say this is because it can take up to 8 weeks for the submission to be approved. There are also quite a few search engines these days so it is important to think about your target audience. By this I mean whether it is geographically targeted. If you have a product or website that is only relevant to a UK audience then you might want to look at submitting your site to local directories like google.co.uk or yahoo.co.uk. You can even go one step further by submitting your site to search engines in your area (like somersetsearch or netlondon).
Here is a quick look at some of the most popular Search Engine Submission directories.

Hi Stuart, some excellent advice here, I’m onto it. Thanks
Not a problem Trixie. I hope it helps.
I wanted to tell you I really appreciate your post and also I wanted to tell you that for some reason, I am unable to get your site to work right in IE8. However, if I switch over to Firefox which I don’t normally use, everything seems to work ok. Not sure if it’s a problem with one of the plugins you use, or if it’s something wrong on my end, who knows.
For top Search Engine Rankings, consider submitting *FEEDS* to search engines as well. We’ve discovered on our blog that submitting not only sitemaps, but also RSS Feeds, will help your site rank very quickly. We cover affiliate marketing strategies at our blog. Hope this tip helps!
I think by far the best backlinking technique is to build link wheels, by hand, and string them together yourself, all these automated software programs leave too many footprints, my two cents anyways
